Once your braces come off, we’ll give you retainers to keep your teeth straight – so you keep smiling for years to come.
Congratulations. Your braces are off and you’re now the proud owner of a confident smile for years to come – or at least you will be if you wear your retainers.
Retainers hold your teeth in their new position, and without them your teeth will start to drift with age. This can be back towards their original position and over time you might find yourself back where you started. It’s a completely avoidable outcome, but unfortunately all too common.
That’s why we place as much importance on retention as your treatment, and provide every patient with removable retainers and 12 months of follow-up care.
If you’ve worn braces before, you might remember the metal and plastic retainers that were neither discreet nor comfortable. Good news: these are a thing of the past and we now use clear, removable retainers, which are virtually invisible. These custom-made retainers fit your smile perfectly, gently holding everything in place.
You’ll only need to put them in at night to maintain your new smile. To keep your retainers safe, we’ll provide you with a protective case to put them in when they’re not being worn, as well as cleaning tablets to keep them clean and fresh.
If you are paying for your own treatment, you’ll also be given fixed retainers. Also known as a bonded retainer, this consists of a thin wire, which is attached to the back of your front six teeth. You’ll quickly forget it’s there and with a little extra care it will last for many years.
Once your 12-month follow-up period has finished, you won’t be on your own. And although you shouldn’t need us, we’ll always be here to offer advice and help if you do.
If you lose or break your retainer, get in touch with us as soon as you can by calling 020 8191 7732.
