Invisible Braces at Thames Orthodontics

Braces are now so discreet, that even as orthodontists, we need to take a close look to see who’s wearing them. From clear aligners, to appliances fitted behind the teeth, there’s an invisible brace to suit every patient – the question is, which one is right for you?

Lingual braces

If you’re looking for a truly invisible solution, lingual braces are the answer. They’re hidden behind your teeth, so friends and family will have to try pretty hard to spot them. They work in the same way as a fixed brace, just on the other side of your teeth. Lingual braces have always been super discreet, and they’re now more effective than ever. We can even have your lingual brace custom-made to fit your teeth – resulting in better control and visibly quicker results. And because everything’s hidden behind your teeth, you’ll be able to see your smile improving day by day.

Clear Aligners, like Invisalign braces

You may already be familiar with Invisalign – a popular brace that uses clear, removable aligners to gently align your teeth. Over 3 million people have it to thank for their confident smiles, including supermodel Gisele Bundchen and tennis star Serena Williams. Invisalign uses a series of custom-made aligners to gently move your teeth. Each set of aligners should be worn for two weeks, for a minimum of 20-22 hours every day. You’ll only need to remove your aligners for eating, drinking, teeth brushing and contact sports. One of the best things about Invisalign is that you can remove your aligners to clean in between your teeth – so keeping on top of your oral hygiene is easy. The downside is that Invisalign isn’t suitable for everyone, and it can only move your teeth in certain directions – so if your case is quite complex you might be better suited to lingual braces or clear braces.

Clear braces

Clear braces offer all the benefits of a fixed brace, but they’re much more discreet. They consist of clear or tooth-coloured brackets, which are attached to the front of your teeth and joined together using a thin wire. This wire uses the brackets to gradually move your teeth into position, until your teeth and bite are just right. While they’re probably the least inconspicuous invisible brace, they’re usually the most affordable – and the results are excellent. Fixed braces give us maximum control, and we can make even the tiniest, most subtle movements to give you the very best end result – a confident and beautiful smile.
